2020 - DR. PENS WINS OUTSTANDING PHYSICAL THERAPIST OF THE YEAR
COAST Physical Therapy owner and President, Dr. Chad M. Pens, PT, DPT, OCS, ATC, CSCS was recently notified that he won the award for Most Outstanding Physical Therapist of the Year by CNY Business Journal. Each year, CNY Business Journal holds the Excellence in Healthcare Awards in which healthcare professionals within a 16-county Upstate NY region are honored with various prestigious awards. A virtual awards banquet will be held in October to honor all of this year’s recipients. Dr. Pens is honored to receive this award, voted upon by his colleagues and CNY community members.
This award comes on Dr. Pens’ 20th anniversary of practicing as a licensed physical therapist. Dr. Pens received his graduate degrees in physical therapy from SUNY Upstate University in 2000 (Master’s in Professional Studies in Physical Therapy) and 2005 (Doctorate in Physical Therapy). Prior to attending SUNY Upstate University, Dr. Pens attended and graduated from the University of Connecticut where he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Sports Medicine and Athletic Training. Dr. Pens holds many certifications (all of the initials after his name), and these include:
- PT—Licensed Physical Therapist
- DPT—Doctor of Physical Therapy
- OCS—Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist
- ATC—Certified Athletic Trainer
- CSCS—Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
Dr. Chad M. Pens is an incredibly knowledgeable physical therapist who is very deserving of this most recent award bestowed upon him. For the third year in a row, COAST Physical Therapy has been nominated for Central New York’s Best Places to Work Award! This award means so much to us as it is voted upon by our very own amazing COAST Physical Therapy staff.
As a small family business, we always strive to give our best to our employees and to provide our employees with a positive family-oriented work environment. We have been blessed with amazing staff members over the years, and this year we truly have the best staff working with us. Thank you to our amazing staff for always giving us your best. 2019 - Best Places to Work
On September 12, 2019, COAST Physical Therapy received an award for The Best Places To Work 2019. This was the second consecutive year that COAST PT has been the honorable recipient of this prestigious award. Owner Dr. Chad M. Pens, his wife Dr. Maria K. Shepherd, VP of Operations Lindsey Lillie, and VP of Public Relations and Marketing Mike Giltner, were all present at the awards ceremony held at Drumlin’s Golf and Country Club in Syracuse. COAST Physical Therapy was one of the top ten recipients in the Small Business category (less than 50 employees). We are very honored to receive this award and thank all of our amazing staff who voted for us. We appreciate your support and loyalty to COAST Physical Therapy. 2018 - Family Business Leader
A big congratulations to owner Dr. Chad M. Pens for winning the 2018 Family Business Leader Award! This award recognizes those individuals in the C-suite (President, CEO, CFO, COO) that have made a significant impact within their organization. This is an honor for Dr. Pens to receive this award as family is of the utmost importance to him. COAST Physical Therapy is owned and operated by Dr. Chad M. Pens and his wife, Dr. Maria K. Shepherd. They took over the practice in 2007, and the size of the company has doubled in the ten years they have owned it. Dr. Pens and Dr. Shepherd work hard to better their employees, better the practice, and better the community. They are involved in many community events, volunteering their time to help and educate others on health, wellness and injury prevention. Dr. Pens has put in endless hours of helping and educating his staff, his patients, and the community. He is an incredible asset to the company, to his staff, and to the community at large. He definitely deserves to be recognized for his dedication to COAST PT, his amazing staff, and the community. COAST PT has earned numerous awards over the past four years including Physical Therapist of the Year in 2015-2017, Small Business of the Year 2017, Educators in Healthcare 2016, and Best Places to Work 2018. Congratulations to COAST Physical Therapy for being nominated for Central New York’s Best Places to Work Awards 2018! COAST Physical Therapy was voted among the top 40 places to work in Central New York. They were entered into the Small Business category of 25 employees or less, and COAST PT placed 5th in their division! An awards banquet was held in September at Drumlin’s Golf and Country Club in Syracuse, where all 40 businesses were honored and presented with their award. This award means a lot to Owner and President, Dr. Chad M. Pens as it is voted upon by the employees of the company. There are many different aspects of the workplace that employees have to report on, and this information is compiled to determine each business’s overall place. Dr. Pens was truly humbled when COAST Physical Therapy was honored with fifth place in the Small Business category. A big congratulations to owner Dr. Chad M. 2017 - Small Business of the Year, Cayuga County
COAST Physical Therapy is VERY proud to be awarded the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce 2017 Small Business of the Year Award, for a business open longer than five years. On May 18, Dr. Chad M. Pens, Dr. Maria K. Shepherd, and Vice President of PR & Marketing, Mike Giltner, accepted the award at a luncheon at The Springside Inn, honoring all of the 2017 award recipients. The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce recognizes the unique contributions of Cayuga County businesses to the economy and overall development of Cayuga County. The Small Business Award recipient specifically demonstrates the ability to overcome adversities in the ever-changing business environment and staying power with a commitment to community involvement. We are honored to receive such a prestigious local business award. 2016 - Educators in HealthCare
The CNY Business Journal honors local businesses and medical professionals with Excellence in Health Care Awards, voted on by the general public within a sixteen-county region of Upstate New York. COAST Physical Therapy received the 2016 Educators in Health Care Award. The staff at COAST PT does so much for our community in terms of educating community members on workplace wellness, injury prevention, and fall prevention, as well as teaching fellow physical therapists on higher-level manual therapy techniques, taping techniques, and advanced orthopedic treatments.
